In early September, Hurricane Dorian became the first Category 5 monster storm to make landfall on Grand Bahama Island after earlier that same day, first making a pair of landfalls in the Abaco Islands …
… where our own Bridge of Hope and Valor Christian College mission teams have done extensive humanitarian work while preaching the Gospel for the last several years.
Wind gusts registered up to 220 mph with sustained winds topping out at 185 mph, tying the second-highest sustained wind speed of all recorded Atlantic hurricanes and
the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane in the Florida Keys as the strongest landfalling hurricane in the Atlantic Basin.
Right there … directly over poor neighborhoods, communities, and towns we have ministered to, worshiped with, and led to the Lord, Hurricane Dorian stalled, producing unrelenting rainfall, catastrophic wind damage, and devastating storm surge for nearly two days
before finally beginning a slow-paced, northward crawl and leaving its unthinkable and life-shattering destruction behind.
Life was not simple interrupted by Hurricane Dorian in these areas – it was crushed. Those that escaped with their lives are turning anywhere they can for desperately needed food, water, and life-saving aid.
